The electric vehicle is the here and now and the future! And with New Orleans being one of the greenest cities in the country, it’s no surprise that so many locals are making the switch to electric cars. The only downside is the lack of accessible public charging stations—especially one that fits your needs.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to electric vehicle chargers. In fact, there are three different levels of charging:
This is the standard charger included with the car. Level 1 chargers utilize a common 120-volt household outlet, so they can be plugged in anywhere. Adding between 3-5 miles of range per hour (RPH), this is the slowest charging equipment available. Most car owners find that Level 1 charging isn’t suitable for their daily charging needs.
A smart and more convenient way to charge an electric car is with a Level 2 charger. Sold separately from the vehicle itself, these chargers have a slightly more complicated setup and often require the help of an experienced electrician to install correctly. Level 2 chargers are plugged into a 240V outlet and provide 12-80 miles RPH. An electric vehicle with an empty battery can be completely charged overnight!
The fastest type of EV charging available, Level 3 chargers provide 3-20 miles per minute. These superchargers use direct current (DC) and require 400-900 volts of electricity to function. For that reason, they are not recommended for home use. Not only do they come with a hefty price tag that the average homeowner can’t justify paying out of pocket, but they require more power than many residential electrical grids can provide. Additionally, not every EV supports Level 3 charging.
You should be able to depend on your EV home charger at all times, which is why you need a local electrician you can trust to perform the installation correctly. Keefe’s has a reputation for being the #1 home electrical service provider in New Orleans, LA! What does that mean for you? It means that your EV home charger is in safe hands.
